CORTESE ALTO MONFERRATO DOC

Production area and denomination

Cortese is one of the most common white grapes cultivated in Piedmont region (north-west of Italy). 

For the denomination CORTESE ALTO MONFERRATO DOC can come only from the provinces of Asti and Alessandria, in an area called MONFERRATO. In Particular,  ALTO MONFERRATO (High Monferrato) is mainly hilly (between 200 and 400 meters above sea level). The weather is tempered-hot but quite windy.

Piedmont region

The grapes allowed by the consortium are:

  • Cortese (from 85 to 100%)
  • Other non aromatic white grapes cultivated in the same area (from 0 to 15%)


Cortese Alto Monferrato can be also lightly Sparkling or Spumante. For all the 3 types (still, lightly sparkling, Spumante) the alcohol content must be at least 10%

Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato is mainly a dry, fresh and light white wine, especially in sparkling versions.

The color is pale straw yellow, often with greenish reflexes. The bouquet is delicate and persistent, with notes of flowers and white fruits; in mouth it has a dry, nicely acidic flavor,  harmonized by a light bitter tendency.

 It can  pair delicate starters, fish, fresh soft cheese. In sparkling version is particularly indicated with deep fried dishes.

It should be served in a medium tulip glass at 8-10 °C
